Bible Verse: Acts
6:10
And they were not able to resist the wisdom and
the spirit by which he spake.
The Spirit of Resistance:
Some time ago, a session was held on a topic relevant
to many of the attendees. The facilitator started
off easy by discussing the existing problems and
the best way to identify them. Then he discussed
how to make changes. However, when it came time
for the participants to make commitments and chart
a definite course of action for change, the room
slowly began to empty out. The laughter stopped
and scowls and frowns replaced eager faces.
Have
you ever had a feeling that it’s time to make
changes in your life or something you’re doing
just isn’t the best for you? Then, suddenly,
trusted friends or even random strangers bring up
exactly what’s been niggling at your mind.
When
this happens, what do we do? Do we immediately embrace
the voice of correction and make immediate changes?
Or do we put up our back in resistance to the modifications
we have to make and the hard work we’ll have
to do to obey.
There
are many different ways that the Spirit can send
us correction. Consequently, there are as many different
ways to resist that correction. So often, we don’t
want to do the hard work when the time comes for
us to make a change in our behaviour or to get rid
of a bad habit. We must overcome the spirit of resistance
by opening up our hearts to the changes that God
wants to make in our lives. They are ultimately
for our good, and we can only benefit.
