As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

Dog and bone:

I was watching a TV show recently. The show dealt with couples in dysfunctional relationships. The wife blamed her husband for everything wrong with the relationship, and doggedly refused to listen to anyone who told her otherwise. Needless to say, I shook my head in pity for someone who was so determined to be right that she was basically pushing her husband out the door.

Sadly, I had no right to cast stones. As humans we are inherently loyal and prone to take sides. Yet, we also have a tendency to stand up and beat our chests for what we think is right. We’re like dogs with bones – never backing done and never letting go. How many times have we dug in our heels demanding our way or no way?

One notable TV host often asks his guests, “do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?” Some things, like truth, righteousness, love and friendship are worth taking a stand for. However, most of the time the things we won’t let go are trivial and have no role in building our characters or preparing us for the Kingdom.

Today, ask the Lord to help you to let go of those things that are getting in the way of His awesome work in your life.
